1Password password manager gets location support for faster access | Free Download

Password managers are useful equipment. They help users to create, store and manage passwords and other sensitive data. Provide some additional features, such as synchronization, two-step authentication, or SSO support.

The main functionality is although the same. You either find passwords or use autofil functionality. The manufacturers of 1password have added a new option to the process: location-based password highlighting.

The main idea is simple: Whenever you are near that place and use a password manager, assign a place to the password to highlight it.

Therefore, when you are working, you can be highlighted a set of passwords that are different from the house, in the gym, or when drinking an aspresso in the Italian bar downtown.

1password says This helps users to faster detection of passwords and this response from customers was “luxurious”.

The functionality has been integrated into the mobile app. You find a new “nearby” sections that highlight passwords that are connected to nearby places. Each item is listed with its name and distance. Note that before the facility is available, you need to add the first places. You will also have to allow the app to use location information.

Here is what it looks like:

As you can see, passwords are displayed at the top for immediate access. You can still use the underlying search to find passwords or if a lot of passwords are associated with a location, you may need to scroll.

The facility can be best worked for a small number of passwords. This will not matter much to add your home space to dozens or hundreds of passwords, but each password does not require a location.

You can still add your home cod, Netflix password, Wi-Fi password, or internet provider PIN to that place.

1password gives some examples:

  • Adding a place to the debit card items, so that when you are near your favorite ATM, the ATM PIN is always displayed.
  • Health insurance items when you are on a doctor.
  • Garage Darwaza or Gate Access Code.

You can add space to all customers, but functionality only works in the mobile client of 1password. Here’s how you add a place to an item:

  • Activate the editing option next to the password / item you want to add a location.
  • Choose a location option.
  • Enter the location manually or use the pick space using the map option.
  • Choose to apply change.

Closing word

While the location of the password-based highlighting cannot appeal to all users, some may find some passwords useful to access rapidly.

Now it’s your turn: what is your place on location-based passwords? Will you use that feature, if the password manager of your choice would support it? Feel free to leave a comment below.
