What you can expect from the performance patch
AMD aims to improve the performance of its new Ryzen 9000 processors with the patch. Initial benchmarks were a bit disappointing. The company says users may see up to a 13% increase in performance in some applications and games.
Older AMD processors will also benefit from this patch, but not as much.
YouTube channel Hardware Unboxed benchmarked Windows systems with and without patches. Performance improved by about 10% on the tested Zen 4-based Ryzen 7 7700X processors. AMD's new Ryzen 7 9700X processors saw a slightly better gain of 11% on average.
However, the tests were run at fairly moderate settings. The test system benchmarked the processor only in games running at 1080p.
While this news is good for owners of AMD Zen 4 and Zen 5 processors, the performance of the Zen 4 and Zen 5 processors is still marginal.
Owners of AMD Ryzen 7000 and probably Ryzen 5000 processors have no reason to upgrade them to the new Ryzen 9000 processors, at least when it comes to performance.
Closing words
Windows 11 version 23H2 devices with AMD processors will benefit from the latest update. The patch is automatically included in upcoming feature updates for Windows 11.
Microsoft has not yet announced a release date for the update.
