Whenever I am asked for the recommendations of the printer, my first response is to get a printer from brother. Unlike other corporations, the brother is refreshed when it comes to the use of third-party printer ink or laser printer toner.
This week, allegations about the brother who joined the dark force has come forward. The claim is the origin of Louis Rosmman, a YouTuber, who has created a name for himself by highlighting bad trade practices in the world of technology and entertainment.
This is the origin of Rosman’s claim: Brother has issued firmware updates that cause printing issues with third-party ink or toner in the company’s printer.

Rosman provides several sources for claims:
- A discussion on the hacker news, where some users were reporting the quality of decline when using the third-party printer ink.
- Report on Reddit, claiming that firmware updates were creating problems while printing with third-party ink.
- A Github project claims that the brother was removing old firmware versions from his server and the brother was closing more and more non-forgotten toner cartridges.
You can see that something is missing. Okay, no first hand is proof. Rasosman has not verified the claims, as no information has been given about local tests.
Brother rejects claims
The brother claims that there is no such thing. Representative of a company told Tech technica He “brother firmware update does not block the use of third-party ink in his printer”.
The brother said that some confusion may come from conversation with support. The brother said that this is a standard exercise to verify the brother printer issues with a real-first-first-shaped cartridge or toner.
Where we are standing
The situation is still dirty. Some users claim that they have problems when printing using third-party ink, reporting any such issues. A possible explanation can be different quality levels of third-party printer ink. Third-party printer ink may have heavy quality differences. Some can provide excellent results when the use of first-sided ink is used. Others can be produced by companies that try to squeeze more money than the process by reducing the quality of ink.
I can only say that I never ran on any issue about the third-party toner in brother printer. I do not have any brother ink printer in my hand, because I like laser printers.
