While Microsoft is yet to make a public announcement about the new feature update for Windows 11, the company has revealed the schedule in a secret announcement. Windows 11 version 24H2 is in testing from May 2023.

Confirmation It comes In the September 16 blog post “Better data protection with Windows and Microsoft Copilot”. The blog post announces new Microsoft Copilot capabilities. The schedule is revealed under “When will this happen”. There, Microsoft states that these changes align with the annual Windows 11 feature update release.
Microsoft writes: “The changes will begin rolling out to managed PCs with the optional non-security preview release on September 24, 2024, and with the monthly security update release on October 8 for all supported versions of Windows 11.”
In other words, the feature update is just a week away for users who installed the optional preview update for Windows 11. Those who don’t will get it as part of the monthly security update on Patch Tuesday on October 8, 2024.
Comment: Very old devices can no longer run Windows 11 version 24H2. This is true for devices that already have Windows 11 installed.
There are several changes in the new feature update. The main features are support for Wi-Fi 7, more AI functionality, sudo functionality for Windows or energy saving improvements. The integrated AI Copilot now offers an app-like experience with a window that is movable and resizable. While this change removes some of the Windows-specific features of Copilot, it is likely that these have not been tested by many users of the operating system.
Apart from that, there will be some usability improvements as well. The right-click File Explorer menu now shows the normal icon and name instead of just the icon. You can also drag and drop files onto the breadcrumbs in File Explorer to copy or move files.
Another useful thing is that Windows Update will become smaller once the feature update is installed on the device.
