First Bitwarden password manager update of 2025 improves password auto-fill | Free Download

Bitwarden is an open source password management solution that we’ve mentioned and recommended many times before on this site.

Developers have released the first major update of 2025 already available For all supported platforms and includes several important changes and improvements.

Bitwarden published changelog On its official website. One key change improves autofill.

autofill correction

All browsers support extension correction. Until now, you had to use fill-buttons to automatically fill in login information.

Once the update is installed, you can start the process by simply clicking on an entry. This functionality is not enabled by default, but you can enable it in the following way:

  1. Select Settings > Autofill.
  2. Toggle “Click on items to autofill on Vault view” to enable the feature.

Once enabled, clicking on the Vault item will paste the data into a web form on the active webpage. To view an item from the menu, select the three-dot menu and then select View options to do so.

The second autofill feature improves entering TOTP-codes using the browser extension. Bitwarden has supported two-factor authentication codes for quite some time. These need to be entered as a second authentication step, provided you have configured this additional security layer.

With the update installed, it is now possible to use the inline menu to enter TOTP codes on websites. It is necessary to enable the Inline Autofill menu if you have not already done so. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Select Settings > Autofill.
  2. Locate “Show autofill suggestions on form fields” and select the desired autofill method.

Bitwarden recommends disabling web browser autofill to avoid conflicts.

Other improvements in Bitwarden

Bitwarden says that password managed desktop apps downloaded through the Snap Store support biometric unlock after installation of the update.

The remaining changes are mostly for enterprise customers and organizations:

  • New public API operation. Added operation to /public/organization/subscriptions.
  • Delete the Free Bitwarden Family Sponsorship policy to prevent users from “redeeming a sponsored family plan through your organization.”
  • A new integration page has been added to the Admin Console that provides Help Center links.
  • Provider members can no longer export client vaults.

Now it’s your turn. Which password manager do you use and why? Have you tried Bitwarden in the past? Feel free to leave a comment below.
