If you experience low audio volume playback on Windows 11, you may be affected by the same issue I faced this weekend. When I turned on my HP laptop I immediately realized something wasn’t right.
At first I thought the audio playback was muted, as I couldn’t hear anything while playing music or watching videos. When I turned the volume up to 100%, I could barely hear the playback.
Something wasn’t right. I tried the usual solutions first:
- Make sure that audio playback is not muted by clicking the sound icon in Windows.
- Make sure the audio is not muted by HP by tapping the F5 key.
- Make sure the volume is set to 100% in Windows.
- Make sure the laptop’s audio control, which on HP is F7 to increase volume, is set to the proper level.
When I realized that the low volume was not the cause, I started investigating the issue further. Unfortunately, the Get Help tool of the Windows 11 system was of no help. Although it displayed some help links, it did not help in the end.
I restarted the PC to make sure the audio playback problem wasn’t accidental; it wasn’t.
The next thing was to check the device manager. The audio components were installed correctly and the driver was also up to date.
Then, after playing around with the audio device settings in Windows, I found the culprit.

How I fixed low volume in Windows 11
- Left click on the volume-icon displayed on the Windows taskbar.
- Activate “Select sound output”.
- Click “Move volume settings.” This opens the audio settings.
- Scroll down to the Advanced section and select “All audio devices.”
- Select the audio device under Output that you use to play audio on the Windows 11 PC.
- Turn off the audio enhancement feature on the page.
This fixed my problem immediately. It’s probably a good idea to turn down the volume before making the change, as you might have a lot of trouble if you turn everything up to maximum.
I have no idea what caused this. I had not manually enabled the audio enhancement feature and I had not installed any new drivers or updates of any kind from the time the audio was working normally until I first experienced the problem.
Nevertheless, if you experience low audio volume on Windows 11, preferably without any changes, there is a good chance that the above fix might resolve the issue on your end as well.
