Windows 11, version 24H2 hasn’t been released long, but its number of issues already exceeds a polonaise at a German carnival.
Gamers have already faced their fair share of problems. The release version of Windows 11 24H2 already had some problems. There was a particular problem with the game Asphalt 8 and there were also problems with the EZ anti-cheat application.
Another issue affected some Ubisoft games. Now, Microsoft has confirmed that Auto HDR is also affected.
Description: Windows gamers who have Auto HDR enabled on their devices will not receive an upgrade offer to Windows 11, version 24H2, via Windows Update.
Microsoft also asks gamers not to install the latest version of Windows 11 through other means. This includes updates via the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or Media Creation Tool.

Microsoft describes The problem is as follows: “You may notice that the game’s colors are incorrect in some display configurations. You may also notice that some games stop responding.”
In other words, if Auto HDR is enabled, games may freeze and potentially crash on Windows 11, version 24H2.
Note that this affects devices that have already been upgraded to the latest version. If you’ve noticed color issues or freezes in games, you may have now found the culprit, provided you use Auto HDR on the device.
Microsoft has published a workaround for customers who are already on Windows 11, version 24H2. It’s no surprise that it suggests disabling Auto HDR for all or some games.
Here’s how it’s done:
- Open the Start menu.
- Select Settings.
- In the Settings app, switch to System > Display.
- On the page that opens, select Graphics.
- Toggle Auto HDR to Off on the page that opens.
This disables the feature for all apps and games on Windows 11 PC.
An alternative to this is to enable or disable Auto HDR only for specific apps or games. This can be done under “Custom settings for the application” on the same page. There you can set the feature only for specific apps or games.
Microsoft says it is working on a solution. Meanwhile, Windows games that have not yet been upgraded are stuck on an older version of the operating system.
