Microsoft has announced that it will close the Microsoft 365 VPN feature in the Microsoft defender for individual and family customers. This decision comes a few days after the subscription prices raised in the board of Microsoft, leaving users with less features despite the increased cost.
Initially introduced as part of the Microsoft 365 in 2023, VPN was marketed as a privacy security tool, allowing users to safely browse the web on the open network. While it lacked the functionality of standalone VPN services, it was a convenient addition to millions of Microsoft 365 users. However, Microsoft now states that it will shut down this feature on February 28, 2025.
“Our goal is to ensure you, and your family is safe online. We regularly evaluate the use and effectiveness of our characteristics. For example, we are removing privacy protection facility and investing in new areas that will better align customers’ needs, ”Microsoft said in a support document that confirming the change.
This step has come up with the recent price increase of Microsoft for Microsoft 365, which increased the cost of individual and family plans by $ 3 per month – the first price increase in more than a decade. While the new membership includes AI-operated features through the Microsoft 365 Copilot, many users may get VPN to remove a large shortage.
