Windows 11 users and administrators who want remote desktop connectivity can use baked-in functionality. First, enable remote desktops on non-home equipment, and then download the remote desktop app for PCS for Windows to establish a connection between two devices.
This happened: Microsoft announced this week that it was retiring the remote desktop app at the end of May 2025. The app will be removed from the Microsoft store and will not be supported anymore.
Microsoft says that users need to infection in the Windows app to ensure continuous access to “Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop and Microsoft Dev Box.
Microsoft highlighted the reforms of the Windows app, stating that the new app offers users “Integrated Access to Multiple Windows Services” and provides “adaptable home screens, multimonator support and dynamic display resolution”.
Problem: The new Windows app supports Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop and Microsoft Dev Box. It does not support remote desktop connections or services at this stage. To make cases worse, the new Windows app requires a work or school account for use.
Microsoft Is said A list of known issues and boundaries of the Windows app. The list includes the following points for the Windows Windows app.
- The user is not supported to reset the user data through the interface (Settings must be done through the app).
- No local Windows Start menu integration.
- Private link to Azure Virtual Desktop is not supported.
- The active directory is not supported SSO with Federation Service.
- Azure is not supported by Azure, Azure Germany, Azure, or Azure Virtual Desktop (Classic), run by 21vianet.
- The Windows app does not work in an environment where the proxy server requires proxy/HTTP authentication.
The Windows app’s rating in Microsoft’s store reflects missing functionality. It currently has a rating of 2.6 out of 5. Users complain that the app does not work with individual microsoft accounts, and does not support RDP on local networks, while Mac does iOS versions of Android and app.
Microsoft recommended These remote desktops and remote desktop services use remotep and desktop connections to users until the functionality is integrated into the Windows app. The functionality was introduced in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, and shows it. It is integrated into the control room of the operating system, not the Settings App.
