Netflix launches cheaper extra members subscription with a catch | Free Download

Netflix has announced the launch of a new additional member option. Standard and Premium subscribers can add additional members to their account at a discounted price. These members do not need to stay with the primary account owner.

Each slot gives the additional member access to the entire Netflix library without any ads. Netflix has now launched a second option to add additional members. This, as you might have guessed, comes with ads.

Description:

  • Additional members with ads are cheaper, but ads are shown.
  • In Germany, subscribers have to pay €3.99 per month instead of €4.99 for each additional member slot. That's a difference of about $1.
  • This new option is also being made available in other regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom or Canada.

Netflix Standard or Premium subscribers now have two options when it comes to additional member slots:

  • Pay the regular price so additional members can watch Netflix without ads.
  • Pay a little less, which means the additional member gets Netflix with ads.

Netflix with ads offers a limited experience compared to ad-free options. The company has not disclosed this on the sign up page, but only on the support page.

At the same time, Netflix has admitted that “all but a few movies and TV shows” are available. However, Netflix did not say which titles are not available.

Additional member accounts are also limited in other cases:

  • Netflix can only be watched on one device at the same time.
  • Downloads are allowed, but only on one phone or tablet at a time.
  • Only one profile can be created.

It's not an attractive option

The new additional members with ads option doesn't look very attractive at first glance, and even at second glance. For 1 euro less per month, your additional member has to endure ads on Netflix. This comes after all the other disadvantages of ad-driven plans, such as some content not being available.

It gets even crazier when you compare the price of Standard to Standard with ads. Standard currently costs €13.99 in Germany, while the ad-powered version costs €4.99. That's about a third of the price.

In Germany, adding the extra money with ad-free slots costs €4.99, while the ad-powered version is available for €3.99. This is a great deal for Netflix, which makes a lot of money from advertising on its platform. On the other hand, it is not such a great deal for users.

Closing words

Overall, it doesn't look like this will be a huge success for Netflix. The price difference may be greater in other regions and countries.
