Microsoft has officially announced a plan to discontinue the support for Windows 10 of the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) version of its popular notes in October 2025. This decision is part of the company’s strategy that consolves its Onenote Prasad in a single, integrated application.
Historically, Microsoft has maintained two different versions of Onenote for Windows users: traditional desktop applications, often referred to as Onenote 2016, and the UWP version is known as Onenote for Windows 10. This dual approach has created confusion among users which version to adopt. To address this, Microsoft is focusing on development efforts on increasing desktop applications, which will serve as the primary onnote experience that is moving forward.
The transition scheme includes several major stages:
- Feature Integration: Microsoft intends to include popular features in the desktop version from the UWP app. It contains better incing capabilities, which is a favorite among users of the Windows 10 app.
- Visual update: The integrated Onenote App will obtain visual enhancement to align with the aesthetics of Windows 11, such as round corners and malaise material effects.
- Support Time Rekha: While the UWP version will continue to get support by October 2025, it will no longer get new features. Users are encouraged to infection in desktop applications for benefits from ongoing updates and improvements.
Currently for users using Onenote for Windows 10, Microsoft recommends migration to the desktop version to ensure new access to new features and support. The desktop application is available for download through the Microsoft Store and is included with Office 365 and Office 2019 installation.
Microsoft’s decision to phase on onenote for Windows 10 in favor of an integrated desktop application aims to streamline the user experience and reduce confusion. By consolidating resources and focusing on a single version, Microsoft wants to provide a more strong and convenient notes for its users.
