Steam Data Leak: Valve says nothing to worry about and gives this advice to users | Free Download

Yesterday, the news about the alleged agreement of major PC gaming platform, Steam broke. Data leaks allegedly included information about 89 million steam users.

The valve published a statement on the official website about the data discovered. The company revealed here:

• Data contains the old SMS messages used for two-factor authentication.
• This includes one -time code and phone numbers which were sent messages.
• The valve says that steam was not violated.
• Investigation is on.

The valve confirms that “the leaked data did not add the phone number with steam account, password information, payment information or other personal data”. In addition, one -time codes are valid for only 15 minutes, which means they are finished and can no longer be used for authentication.

In other words: Data involves current or previous steam users’ phone numbers and information that accounts used SMS verification at one time for authentication.

Valve says, there is no need to worry

Valve says That steam users do not need to change their password or phone number as a reaction to data leaks. However, this suggsts, that steam users should be suspicious of any safety message that they receive that did not trigger from the user’s action.

Switching certification

Steam users are encouraged to switch to the steam guard rather than using a mobile phone for SMS and verification. SMS is incredibly insecure, as the messages are not encrypted. The same is true for email verification, which are also insecure.

Steam guard is an authent for steam. It is included in the official steam apps for Anroid and iOS.

Here’s how it is done:

1. Download Official steam application For iOS or Android. The steam guard functionality is integrated into the app.
2. Sign in in the steam app installed with your account credentials.
3. The steam guard is displayed on one of the first pages after sign in.
4. Choose “Connection” to start the setup process.
5. The valve sends a code to the steam account phone number. If you have not added a phone number to the account, you are motivated to add a one. You can proceed even without adding a phone number by selecting “I do not have access to phone number”.
6. Type the code to move forward.
7. Write the recovery code that displays steam on the next page. If you do not have access to the device with the steam mobile app (now), then this code is required to get access to your account.

Once set, you have three options to sign in to steam on another device:

1. Scan the steam QR code using a mobile application.
2. To sign in, type the user name and password and sign in using the mobile application.
3. Type the user name and password, and then enter the steam guard code to sign-in with the mobile app.
