The valve has introduced a new warning system on the steam to alert buyers when a initial access game is left. The purpose of this change is to improve transparency for users who buy games that live in development for an expanded period without updates.
Initial access titles allow players to support developers by purchasing games before their official 1.0 release. However, some projects do not communicate with developers, in the gender, beyond their promised deadline. To address this, Steam now displays a warning on the store pages of the initial access game, which has not received an update in a year.
For example, on the store page Batalbit remasteryA message now reads: “Note: The final update made by developers was 13 months ago. The information and timelines mentioned by the developers here cannot be yet.” The number of months in the message will change dynamically, it depends on how long the game has gone without any update.
This warning appears only for the initial access games that have been inactive for at least one year. Developers issuing updates within a few months will not be affected. However, the system can accidentally flagged the games that mainly update beta versions rather than base games, possibly affecting their visibility.
The valve’s move is expected to encourage developers to maintain transparency about their development progress by giving more information to potential buyers before purchasing.
