Cloud-based photos search
Microsoft Launched This week a new feature in the developer preview of Windows 11 that is adding new search capabilities.
Description:
- Users can find using the natural language to find photos hosted on ONEDRIVE.
- This feature is available only to Copilot+ PC.
- It is slowly rolling out, which means that it may take some time to get available on a specific device.
Microsoft suggests that users can discover words such as European palace or summer picnic, to return all matching photos directly to the file explorer, even if they were hosted online.
Windows returns the search term and local files matching online files, even if the file names do not have the search phrase.
Microsoft has planned to expand functionality in the Windows search box on the taskbar in the future updates. For now, it only works in the file explorer.
The new feature is only available to users signed in individual microsoft accounts and only when onedrive is being used. Microsoft says that the facility does not work when logged in with work or school account.
Support is also available only for Snapdragon-Inaculated Copilot+ PC. Microsoft has promised that AMD and Intel-operated equipment will get “soon”.
Searchic searching has been available for local images for some time, adding support for the new feature ONEDRIVE. This feature should be enabled by users under Settings> Privacy and Safety> Search Windows> Finding Advanced Sicrain Options. Increased search mode sequences the entire PC for that.
Microsoft says that local-cavalry facilities do not require internet connection, which is good for privacy.
Closing word
The ability to find photos depending on the context is definitely interesting. This can help users find photos that they can not find exactly or quickly.
The main negative side is that it is limited to Copilot+ PC, ondrive and only at that time. Microsoft did not mention confidentiality in the declaration. It should be clear that some forms of processing in the cloud needs to be there.
